Born at Hevingham, Norfolk and lived at The Barleycorn, Hevingham. Son of Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Cole, of Halls Corner, Hevingham, Norwich. He was a Chauffeur and Groom prior to enlisting 3rd May 1917 at Wroxham, Norfolk in to the Royal Army Service Corps. He was transferred to the 4th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, 25th May 1917. He went to France and was posted to the 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment, 3rd April 1918. He was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918 and was killed in action, 1st October 1918, aged 19, during an attack near Vlamertinghe, Belgium.
