Private Joseph Henry Coldwell

Born at Pity Me, County Durham. and lived at Thornley, County Durham. Son of James an Hannah Coldwell, of 9 Gatt Street, Thornley, County Durham. He was a grocers assistant prior to enlisting 5th June 1916 at Durham. He went to France 2nd March 1917 and posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder and buttock, 30th June 1917 and was admitted to No. 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 2nd July 1917. He was transferred to No. 4 General Hospital Camieres, France, 3rd July 1917 and on tot England on Hospital Ship Princess Elizabeth, 7th July 1917. He returned to France 4th December 1917 and was posted to the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He died of wounds 12th May 1918 as prisoner of war in Germany.
