Private George William Cocker

Battalion: 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Buxton, Derbyshire and lived at New Mills, Derbyshire. Son of Mrs Elizabeth Cocker, of 31, Bank Side, New Mills, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Buxton and went to France on 11th October 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 20, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France,  on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
