Private John William Clough

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of William and Mary Elizabeth Clough, of 7, Torrs Yard, Wirksworth. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 28th August 1906 at Wirksworth. He served in India and went to France on 8th September 1914. He was killed in action on 20th October 1914, aged 26, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.
