Born at Nicosia, Cyrpus. Son of Dr. R. A. Cleveland, of Holmdale, Addlestone, Surrey. He was educated at Stubbington House School, Hampshire prior to enlisting 22nd December 1915. He joined the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment at Vielle Sur Ancre, 19th September 1916. and was killed in action, 16th October 1916, aged 18, by German shellfire whilst serving in Cloudy Trench, near Montauban, France during the Battle of the Somme.
