Born in Merfield, Yorkshire. Son of Joseph and Mary Clegg, of Wood Bottom, Hopton, Merfield, Yorkshire. Husband of Annie Clegg, of Nelson Terrace, Portland Street, Daybrook, Nottingham. He was a drayman, for Home Brewery, Arnold, Nottingham. Went to France on 6th March 1916 and died of wounds on 6th April 1917.
Buried: Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 9, Row C. Grave 25A.
