Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Alfred James and Annie Cleary, of 41, Duke Street New Basford, Nottingham. he was a bookbinder prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, 17th October 1917, aged 22, whilst serving in the line at Zillebeke, Belgium.
