Born at Nocton Fen, Lincolnshire. Son of William and Ann Eliza Clayton, of Potterhanworth, Lincolnshire. He enlisted at Lincoln and died of sickness, 16th April 1918, aged 20, at Bachant, near, Aulnoye, France as a prisoner of war.
