Born in Radford, Nottinghamshire and lived at Stapleford, Nottingham. Son of John and Mary Clay, of 7 Niall Street, Radford, Nottingham. Brother of Mr A. Clay, of 27, Orchard Street, Stapleford. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 9th December 1915 at Stanton. He went to France on 13th January 1917 and died of pneumonia at 1st North Midland Field Ambulance on 29th January 1917.
