Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Clay of 24, Prince Street, Nottingham. He was a grocers assistant prior to enlisting at Derby. He was killed in action, 14th April 1917, aged 24, in the German attack on the British line near Hill 60, Belgium.
