Lance Corporal William Percy Clarke

Battalion: 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Knaresborough, Yorkshire. Son of William and Hannah Clarke, of “Fairfield” Borough Bridge Road, Knaresborough, Yorkshire. He was a draper’s assistant prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915 at Buxton, Derbyshire. He went to France on 25th February 1917 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his right shoulder on 12th October 1917. He was treated at 64 Casualty Clearing Station, Mendinghem, Belgium and was transferred to 22 General Hospital, Camiers, France. He rejoined his battalion on 18th March 1918 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 8th September 1918. He was killed in action, 20th October 1918, during a raid on the German lines on the River Selle, France.
