Born and lived at Hyson Green, Nottingham. Son of Alfred John and Maria Clarke, of 31, Howitt Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a Coach Trimmer prior to enlisting at Nottingham and was killed in action, 21st June 1917, aged 24, by German Shellfire near the Canal Bank near Ypres, Belgium.

Buried : Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 1, Row C, Grave 10.
