Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Frederick and Mary Clarke, of 152, Station Road, Beeston, Nottingham. Husband of Florrie Clarke, of Birch’s Lane, Alfreton, Derbyshire. He was a town carter prior to enlisting on 15th August 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France on 18th May 1915 and was killed in action, 21st November 1917, aged 26, by German shellfire, whilst in the trenches near Bellevue, Belgium.
