Born and lived at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Alfred and Susan Clarke, of 5 Valences Street, Mansfield. He was pit door trapper prior to enlisting at Newark, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 8th June 1917, whilst in the line near Lievin, France.
