Born at Walworth, Surrey and lived at Camberwell, Surrey. Son of John William, of 7 Moredale Street, Camberwell. He was a clerk prior to enlisting on 8th August 1914 in London. He went to France on 15th August 1915 and was awarded the Good Conduct Badge, 7th August 1916. He was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 28th October 1917 and was killed in action, 23rd March 1918, during the German offensive near the Maricourt Road, France.
