Born at Walsall and lived at Awsworth, Nottinghamshire. Son of Charles and Elizabeth Clarke, of Main Street, Awsworth, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 5th June 1915 at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He went to France 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 5th August 1916, aged 19, whilst serving in the line near Givenchy, France.
Buried : Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France. Plot 2, Row B, Grave 14.
