Born at Staveley, Derbyshire and lived at South Elmsall, Yorkshire. Son of George and Kate Ann Childs, of 114, Seymour, Norbriggs, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Staveley. He went to France on 28th July 1915 and was killed in action, on 3rd March 1916, in the attack near the Ypres/Commines canal.
