Son of John and Elizabeth Chapman, of 1, Common Side, Swadlincote, Burton-On-Trent, Staffordshire. He was a Pipe Carrier prior to enlisting 26th March 1915 at Derby. He went to France 12th October 1915, suffered shell wounds to his back, 20th June 1917 and died of wounds, 23rd January 1917, aged 22, at No. 43 Casualty Clearing Station at Warlincourt, France.
