Born and lived at Tideswell, Derbyshire. Son of James and Sarah Chapman, of Market Square, High Street, Tideswell, Derbyshire. He was an apprentice grocer prior to enlisting on 10th March 1914 at Tideswell. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, 30th September 1915, aged 21, when the Germans exploded a mine and shelled the line near Outerdom, Belgium.

Died : 30th September 1915, aged 21.

Buried : Chester Farm Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 1 Row B. Grave 4.
