Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Edward and Harriett Chaplin, of 18, Tyler Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. He was a lace factory hand prior to enlisting 20th May 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th December 1914 and was admitted to hospital with frostbite and cellulitis to his feet, 26th January 1915. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick, 27th January 1915. He died at 4 Southern general Hospital Plymouth, 24th April 1915, aged 18, after falling into a diabetic coma,
