Born at Sheffield, Yorkshire and lived at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, Son of Elizabeth Chantry, of 17 Valance Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner at Sherwood Colliery prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He went to France on 28th July 1915 and died of wounds on 17th March 1916.
