Born at Thrumpton, Nottinghamshire. Son of Charles and Mary Ann Chandler, of 4 Darrell Road, Retford. He was telegraphist for the Great Northern Railway prior to enlisting 28th August 1914 at Retford. He went to France 26th January 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his head 9th August 1915, He was treated at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station at Abeele, 10th August 1915, transferred to No. 10 Stationary Hospital where he died of wounds 7th September 1915, aged 20.
