He was born at Ashby de la Launde, Lincolnshire. Son of William and Catherine Chambers. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Lincoln and served in Gallipoli in 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 3rd October 1916, whilst serving in the line near Fouquieres, France.
