Born at Bermondsey, London. Son of Walter H. W. Challenor; Husband of Gertrude Walton (formerly Challenor), of 38, Clarence Street, Lincoln. He was a prison warder prior to enlisting 5th October 1914 at Nottingham into the 5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was appointed Lance Corporal 1st December 1914 promoted sergeant, 15th September 1915 and appointed Company Quartermaster Sergeant, 28th February 1916. He was discharged no longer fit for active service, 3rd June 1916 suffering from colitis and died 13th September 1916, aged 40.
