He was born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Thomas and Edith Ceney, of “Little Manchester”, Skegby, Notttinghamshire. Was a miner at Tibshelf Colliery. He enlisted at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, 8th December 1914 and went to France 26th August 1915. He was killed in action, 6th October 1917, whilst serving in the line near Zillebeke, Belgium.
