Born and lived at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Jesse and Mary Caunt, of 93 Low Moor Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
