Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of George Henry and Annie Caulton, of 27, Lake Street, Nottingham. He was a joiner prior to enlisting on 29th March 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th October 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his left hand on 30th June 1916. He was treated at 20 Casualty Clearing Station. Warlencourt, France and was evacuated to England on Hospital Ship Asturius on 3rd July 1916. He returned to France on 18th November 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal on 21st February 1917 and was killed in action, on 2nd March 1917, aged 27, whilst serving in the line at Gommecourt Wood, France.
