Born in Derbyshire and lived in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edward and Susan Caudwell, of 21, Bowling Street, Mansfield. He was a coal miner at Mansfield Colliery prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 18th April 1918, aged 22, by German shellfire whilst in the line at Sailly-Labourse, France.
