Born and lived at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Emma Catlin, of 8, Brook Cottages, Awsworth Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting 23rd April 1918 at Derby. Was posted to the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 25th April 1918. He went to France 13th August 1918 and was posted to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 19th August 1918. He was killed in action, 5th September 1918, whilst moving into the line near Mouettes Trench near Flers, France.
