Born in Newark, Nottinghamshire and was the son of George and Fanny Catley, of 4 Mount Pleasant, Mill Gate, Newark. He was an office boy prior to enlisting at Newark and was killed in action, 7th April 1917, during the attack at Le Verguier, northwest of Saint Quentin, France.
