Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire and lived in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Husband of Ellen Pearce (formerly Catherall), of 22, Barker Lane, Brampton, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He died in Hospital, on 31st December 1914, aged 27, in Dorset.

Buried: Brampton (St. Thomas) Churchyard, United Kingdom.
