Born at Brockmoor, Staffordshire and lived at Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Son of Alfred and Phobe Cartwright of 53, Parker Street, Brierley Hill. He was a mill labourer prior to enlisting on 3rd November 1917 at Wolverhampton. He went to France on 8th April 1918 and died of wounds received in the attack at Neuvilly, France, 13th October 1918 at 53 Field Ambulance.
