Born at Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. Husband of Elizabeth Cartlidge, of 18, Poole Street, Higherland, Newcastle-under-Lyme. He was a pit sinker prior to enlisting at Newcastle-under-Lyme. He went to Egypt and died of disease at Port Said, 25th March 1916.
