Born at Tideswell, Derbyshire. Husband of Mary Cartledge. He was a hide and skin dealer prior to enlisting at Litton, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 28th July 1915, whilst serving in the line near Sanctuary Wood, Belgium.

Buried : Divisional Cemetery, Belgium. Row F. Grave 4.
