Battalion : 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Collingham, Nottinghamshire and lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield. Son of George Henry and Betsy Carter, of Charnwood Villas, Stonyford Lane, Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was killed in action, 7th September 1916, age 21, by German shellfire whilst serving in the line to the south of Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
