Lived in Bolton, Lancashire. Son of Michael and Margaret Carroll. He enlisted at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Killed in action, 3rd September 1916, age 36, in the attack on the German positions near Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
