Born in Mexborough, Yorkshire. and lived at Bulwell, Nottingham. Son of Edwin and Sarah Carratt, of 53, Clarges Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. He was a cowboy on a farm prior to enlisting at Bulwell. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 16th September 1916, age 20. in the attack at Guillemont, France during the Battle of the Somme.
