Private Francis William Carp
Army Number : 71929 (formerly 25462 North Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales’s)
Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Bagnall, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Son of Roland carp, of Selby, Yorkshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting 29th May 1916 at Stoke-on-Trent. He went to France 15th May 1917 and was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 5th June 1917. He suffered a gunshot wound to his head, 4th September 1917 and was treated at 24 General Hospital, Etaples, France. He rejoined his battalion 18th October 1917 and was killed in action by German shellfire, whilst serving in the line near Bellevue, Belgium, 21st November 1917.
