Born at County Tyrone, Ireland and lived at Rossington, Yorkshire. He was a pit sinker prior to enlisting 18th August 1915 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire, aged 40 years and 7 months. He went to France 4th March 1916 joining the 1/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 16th March 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen 12th July 1916 and was admitted to No. 20 Casualty Clearing Station at Warlincout, where he developed pneumonia and died 22nd July 1916.
