Son of William and Isabella Carmichael, late of Innellan, Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa. Went to France on 1st March 1916. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.13th July 1916 but was still fighting with the South African Infantry when he was killed in action, 15th July 1916, age 28, during the attack at Delville Wood France, during the Battle of the Somme.
