Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at South Normanton, Derbyshire. Son of Robert and Elizabeth Carlisle, of 63, The Common, South Normanton, Alfreton, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting in August 1914 at Derby. He went to France on 28th November 1914 and suffered frostbite and was admitted to No. 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, France. He was transferred to England Hospital Ship Carisbrook Castle, 4th January 1915. He returned to France on 24th March 1915 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, at age 19, during the attack at Sanctuary Wood, Belgium.
