Born at Nottingham and lived at 3 Lewis Street, Nottingham. Son of Thomas James and Elizabeth Harriett Calow, of 47, Lewis Street Nottingham. He was a tobacconist assistant prior to enlisting 6th April 1912 at Nottingham. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, 13th October 1915, age 20, in the attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt, France.
