Born and lived at Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Son of John and Jane Callow, of The Green Road, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Went to France on 15th September 1914 with the 14th Battalion London Regiment (London Scottish) and was wounded in October 1914. Commissioned Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 24th July 1915 and was posted to the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 25th July 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 19, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
