Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of Joseph and Maria Callaway, of 45 Gawthorne Street, Basford, Nottingham. Husband of Margaret Louisa Callaway. of 13 Midlothian Terrace, Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham. He was a town labourer prior to enlisting 25th May 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France 8th December 1916 and was admitted to No. 2 General Hospital, Le Havre, 9th April 1917 suffering from Pleurisy. He was transferred to England, 24th April 1917 and returned to France 10th September 1917. He was posted to the 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 29th January 1918 and was killed in action, 22nd March 1918, in a German raid on the British line near Beuvry, France.
