Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Walsall, Staffordshire. Husband of Vennetta Byfield, of 24 Howard Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 and was killed in action, 17th August 1917, whilst the battalion was moving into the front line at Steenebeke, France.
