Born at Rochdale. Lived at Willingham Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Son of John and Phoebe Butterworth; Husband of Edith Butterworth, of 5, Northumberland Road, Southsea, Portsmouth. He enlisted at Grimsby. He was fish house worker prior to enlisting at Grimsby. He died of pneumonia 10th January 1917, age 26.
