Born at London and lived at Hyson Green, Nottingham. Son of George and Jane Butler, of 17, Goodliffe Street, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham and was killed in action, 26th September 1917, age 21, during the attack near Wieltje, Belgium.

Buried : Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 12. Row E. Grave 2.
