Born in Battersea, London. Son of Harry and Elizabeth Ann Butcher, of 64, Emlyn Road, Redhill, Surrey. He was a groom prior to enlisting on 6th June 1910 at Guildford, Surrey. He served in India from 19th October 1912 to 2nd October 1914. He went to France on 3rd October 1914 and was killed in action whilst serving in the line near Richebourg, France.
