Born and lived at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of John Henry and Elizabeth Hannah Butcher, of 20 Kingston Avenue Hallam Fields, Ilkeston. He enlisted at Ilkeston and went to France on 1st March 1915 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
