Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of George Louis and Emma Burton. He lived at No. 5 Bennetts Place, Durrant Road, Chesterfield. Was a coal miner (pony driver) prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 and was killed in action, 17th September 1916, whilst serving in the line South of Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
